It's hard to believe that in the 21st Century, in a village on a peninsula surrounded by water, our children are thirsty, it's true. At our Chapel Dedication service yesterday, parents questioned why Achiever Academy leadership asks parents to provide drinking water for their children while at school. The Director explained that Indian government regulations prevent a non-profit school from providing water, food, etc. to students. He went on to explain that when the inspector examines school records and discover receipts for water, they require everyone who drinks this water to appear in person at the government office to swear they received the water, and thus prove the Director did not drink all the water himself.. This is India's answer to preventing corruption within non-profit organizations and while we respect the purpose, the devil is most certainly in the details. The parents were notified of the problem and asked to send drinking water for their children each day. Many of our parents cannot afford to purchase water and do not understand why the school cannot provide it. So the children come without water, the school cannot pay for it, and the result is, our children our thirsty.
It's hot here in southern India. Really, really hot. The latitude is about the same as Panama. Air conditioning is rare here in the village and nonexistent in schools. We spend hours each day without electricity to run fans in rooms with virtually no ventilation.
We are in need of a “Water Sponsor” for Achiever Academy for $15 per month. Your gift would provide clean drinking water for almost 100 children and teachers for one month. Your donation may be a one-time gift or on a continuing basis, made by cash, check, or credit/debit card on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. If you are interested in providing this critical need for our children, please use the "Contact Us" link at the top of this page to send us an email and we'll contact you to finalize the details. You may also leave your name and email in the comments below and we'll be in touch.
Would you join us in praying for that special someone who will bring water to our children?
