Achiever Academy is a primary school in Mahabalipuram, India. The school was established following the Indian Ocean Tsunami of December 2004. After the initial tsunami relief efforts distributed medical care, food, clothing, and shelter to the villagers, the great need was identified for quality education for all children of India - including the poorest of the poor.
In 2005, Acts of Mercy renovated a building in Mahabalipuram, thus establishing a permanent English-medium school. With English as the language of instruction, the children have improved opportunities for higher education and eventually entering the global job market. Technology literacy is critical for the 21st century and Achiever Academy students enjoy technology far exceeding any other schools in the area. Currently, Achiever Academy educates approximately 75 students in pre-K through 5th grades. Future goals include the full implementation of standards-based learning, brain-based learning strategies and increased technology applications.
Achiever Academy has quickly become recognized in the community for its excellent educational values, innovative instructional strategies, and its love for all children, regardless of background. 51% of the seats at Achiever Academy are reserved for underprivileged children. The education of these children is subsidized by sponsor donation monthly or annually.
